Pannier bags – Always plenty of storage space for your bike
Bicycle panniers are ideal for carrying groceries, rain jackets for bike rides, or snacks for breaks. These bags are usually made of water-repellent materials, so neither dirt nor moisture can get inside. Unlike a bike basket, panniers can be securely fastened so they don’t open while riding. Another advantage of panniers is that they can be quickly attached to the bike using modern click-in systems. The bag can be easily removed by pulling on the handles. Most bike bags come with shoulder straps for easy carrying. We offer various types of bike panniers for sale at affordable prices.

Double panniers for bike tours
Double panniers allow for longer tours and bike trips with plenty of luggage. Inside the bags, you’ll find plenty of space to store everything from clothes and tents to a full picnic. You can distribute the weight so that you can still ride the bike with ease.
With the right panniers for carrying everything from groceries to luggage, cycling makes life easier and lets us leave the car in the garage every now and then. The following recommendations will help you decide which model best suits your needs.
Bike Bags for Everyday Use
Whether you ride your bike or e-bike frequently or just occasionally, bike bags with a large main compartment and a quick-release system are highly recommended. The bags attach to your bike in seconds and come off just as quickly.
On the way to work
More and more cyclists can be seen on the streets and bike paths on their way to work in the morning. And by now, the rear rack bag has become a standard feature for reliably stowing documents, a snack, an extra jacket, and other essentials.
The trunk for bike trips and tours
For bike tours and cycling vacations, carrying two to three large panniers provides ample space for clothing, shoes, towels, etc., as well as the occasional souvenir. As long as the weight distribution between two or three individual bags doesn’t vary too much, the bike’s handling isn’t significantly affected by the difference. A very smart solution is the combination of two panniers on both sides, along with a cooler pannier on the rear rack.
How is a bike bag attached to the bike?
Good bike bag systems are usually attached to the rack using a clip system. These clips are simply hooked onto the horizontal bar of the rack. Additionally, better systems feature an extra clamp that allows the bags to be secured to the rack’s vertical bars, which typically run diagonally downward. The bags are thus essentially secured at three points and, when handled properly, can hardly slip or detach from the bike. Some bags are also equipped with Velcro straps. However, such fasteners are more commonly found on handlebar bags, saddle bags, or frame bags. The advantage of these smaller bags is obvious: they can be attached and removed in a matter of seconds. With larger rack bags, however, the aspect of “safety and secure attachment for heavy loads” must also be considered.
That’s why it’s important, for example, to attach the bags as tightly as possible to the bike. The bag should have little to no play within the mounts. Especially on bumpy trails, the bags should move as little as possible or not start “bouncing” at all. The contents of the bags should also be securely stowed to prevent unnecessary movement.
Does the bike bag fit on every rack?
There are various types of luggage racks, each designed for specific bicycles. Most luggage racks are suitable for carrying panniers. However, some struts are thicker than others. Thin luggage rack tubes are often less than ten millimeters thick. These are now mostly found only on used, somewhat older models.
Nowadays, standard tubes have a diameter of 10–12 mm. However, there are also racks with tubes that are thicker than 15 mm. On some models of Dutch bikes, the tube can be thicker than 1.5 centimeters. Often, there are design-related reasons for a thicker rack tube. The design is meant to match the bike, which is often styled as a vintage bike, evoking the look of postal bikes from days gone by.
Thin luggage racks are typically used on road bikes or minimalist city bikes. However, when discussing the maximum load capacity for the tubes, various factors come into play. A typical weight range is specified as between 18 and 40 kilograms. Therefore, the manufacturer’s specifications should always be followed.
We carry bike bags for every bike rack with a maximum thickness of 1.6 mm. This means the bag can be used on both road bikes with delicate racks and Dutch-style bikes. No installation is required, as the hooks simply clip onto the top of the tube. It doesn’t matter whether your bike is 26 or 28 inches.
Pannier or backpack?
- It is very difficult to securely attach a backpack to a bike
- A pannier can be securely attached to a bike and also carried like a shoulder bag if a corresponding strap is included.
- However, a pannier bag is never a substitute for a backpack on a longer hike; it’s better suited for short distances.
- A backpack usually has many small pockets, both inside and outside, to keep small items organized.
- Panniers do have plenty of storage space, but tend to have fewer smaller compartments or pockets
Conclusion: Whether you choose a backpack or a pannier depends entirely on how you carry your daily essentials. If you’re mostly on the go by bike, a pannier is the better choice. If you only ride your bike occasionally, a backpack is the better option. However, if you want to carry heavy items, a pannier is always the better option because then your bike—not you—bears the heavy load.
