Only the "wealthy" could get on a plane to get to their desired vacation destination back then.

A camping vacation today no longer belongs to the category "cheap", but evokes great images and wishful thinking of adventure, freedom, closeness to nature and joint activities with the family, preferably a mixture between entertainment, adventure and entertainment. If the children fall exhausted and with a smile in the evening in the sleeping bag or in bed in the camper, then you have done everything right that day.

When hiking, you should have everything with you that you might need. For shorter distances you will need less. Often a light backpack for some provisions, a rain jacket, a pocket knife, a good water bottle, maybe a flashlight if it gets dark early in the evening, etc. is enough. For longer tours, perhaps planned over several days, it looks different. Besides the above mentioned utensils you should think about things like compass, GPS device, first aid kit, repair kit, small cooking set, etc.. This way you are independent and can really enjoy nature as it is given to us.
For tours lasting several days, a very good sleeping bag should not be missing. A nice mountain hut is great, but in your own sleeping bag even more great. The right camping lantern always provides enough light, exactly where you should not sit in the dark.
If you're more the type to combine adventure with sports, then you should take one or more looks at bikes, climbing gear, water sports and winter gear for inspiration.

The right camping clothes
Since you will be spending most of your time in the great outdoors, be it hiking, climbing, biking, or even camping, you should pay a lot of attention to the right clothing. It must not only be comfortable, but also of high quality, robust and protect as well as possible against wind, cold and moisture. The joy of the outdoors usually fades very quickly when you are soaked and start to freeze. "There is almost no bad weather, but plenty of bad clothes."
